Here’s Our Review for ‘The Lion King’ – Shah Rukh Khan, Aaryan Khan and Shreyas Talpade.
After 3 hugely successful live-action adaptations to animated classics like The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin in recent years, Disney is back with yet another live-action adaptation to probably its most iconic animated film The Lion King.
Let us start this review by saying that this film is a cinematic marvel when it comes to visuals. Not even once you feel like animals, trees and surroundings are all computer-generated. The level of detailing in every frame is simply jaw-dropping, especially on hair. Everything looks photo-realistic. Animation and visual effects are some of the best we’ve personally seen in any film to date.
The story is about a lion cub who learns the meaning of responsibility and bravery as he grows and also takes revenge from his uncle for murdering his father. As this is a scene-to-scene remake of the 1994 animated film, the director didn’t change the plot. One thing I didn’t like though is the lack of emotions in some parts which doesn’t make you feel bad for the main characters. The film could have made a much more impact on the audience if emotions were strong.
The direction is fantastic and it’s not easy to direct films like these, so full marks to Jon Favreau. Voice-over artists did a great job. Since we watched in Hindi, it was Shah Rukh Khan and his son Aryan Khan as Mufasa and Simba.
Cinematography is breath-taking. Songs are good and background music is excellent.
But does it live up to tremendous hype? No.
Is it a fun adventure flick that can be watched with friends and family? Absolutely.
Overall, The Lion King is a well-made film which you should go and watch in the theaters for its visuals. Just don’t expect it to be another The Jungle Book because it pales in comparison to that film.
