Here’s our Full Detailed Movie Review of the film ‘Prassthanam’
Cast: Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Manisha Koirala, Chunky Pandey, Ali Fazal, Satyajeet Dubey.
Director: Deva Katta
Producer: Maanayata Dutt
Runtime: 2 hour 21 min
Genre: Political Family Drama
STORY: Prassthanam is an official Hindi remake of the 2010 Telugu hit, which is helmed by Deva Katta, who also directed the original film. “Set against the backdrop of politics, Prassthanam is an interesting and engaging political family drama. The movie is about a family headed by Sanjay Dutt and the power war in his house as well as around him.
A family drama so expectedly all the elements of one are present here – betrayal, murder, complex inter-personal dynamics, twists and turns, lust for power and most importantly, sibling rivalry. Sounds a bit like Kalyug or Rajneeti? Perhaps, but director Deva Katta (who also made the original) keeps a firm grip on the proceedings for most of the time.
PERFORMANCE: Sanjay Dutt is the lifeline of this film. As the patriarch of the family, his character is well written out with a lot of shades and he carries that with aplomb. Be it action sequence, confrontational scenes, emotional scenes or the vulnerability, Sanjay Dutt nails it. His die-hard fans are in for a treat.
Ali Fazal, as Sanjay Dutt’s step-son in the film, shines and how. He has already proved his acting talent with web shows like Mirzapur and Prassthanam is another feather in his cap. Satyajeet Dubey really surprised us with his performance. Here he impresses with the role of a spoilt brat. Would love to see more of him.
It looks like Chunky Panday is really enjoying these negative roles as after Begum Jaan and Saaho, he has impressed here once again. His character of a conniving businessman is quite interesting.
Jackie Shroff has a brooding loyal guard to Sanjay Dutt is wasted here and so is Manisha Koirala. While she looks good, her character is not convincing. All she does in the film is shedding tears throughout. Amyra Dastur looks good but has nothing to do in the film. She is just there.
Overall it is a good one-time watch movie, as it manages to hold your interest in parts due to its fast-paced developments. But it also suffers from the usual pitfalls like unwanted songs and just too many conflicts, happening all at once.
Prassthanam is a tried and tested political potboiler with power, greed, and emotions at its core.
