Star Cast: Ayushmann Khurrana, Yami Gautam, Bhumi Pednekar, Saurabh Shukla, Abhishek Banerjee, Jaaved Jaaferi, Seema Pahwa, Dheerendra Gautam

Directed by: Amar Kaushik

Runtime: 2 Hours 10 Minutes

Story: – Bala is about Balmukund Shukla aka Bala (Ayushmann Khurrana), who was quite a popular kid in school with a good hairdo. However, in his 20s he is now dealing with premature balding. He starts wearing a hair toupee. His neighbour is Latika (Bhumi Pednekar), whom he used to bully in school for her darker complexion and continues to look down upon her due to her skin tone. He falls in love with a local fairness cream model and a Tiktok star Pari (Yami Gautam). Soon they start dating and are going to get married but, Bala hasn’t told her that he wears a toupee and is actually bald. What happens next forms the rest of the story.

Director Amar Kaushik replicates what he gave us with Stree, showing us once again how he can spin a serious situation into a light-hearted comedy without stripping away the substance. Paired with the exceptional dialogue and screenplay by Niren Bhatt and Ravi Shankar Muppa, this film has all the makings of a blockbuster.

Performance:

Ayushmann Khurrana delivers yet another FANTASTIC performance. He has now become the guarantee of a box office success. Be it comedy or dramatic scenes, Ayushmann excels. His imitation game is on point!

Yami Gautam gets the best role of her life and she surprises and how. She is a revelation and even steals the show whenever she is on-screen. This has to be her best performance to date and makes me wonder how filmmakers have been wasting her talent all these years.

Bhumi Pednekar gives an endearing performance, though she didn’t have much to do in the first half. However, in the second half, she shines.

Among the supporting actors, Saurabh Shukla (Bala’s father) and Dheerendra Kumar Gautam (Bala’s brother) leave an impact. Jaaved Jaaferi is wasted and Abhishek Bannerjee is just about okay. Seema Pahwa is first-rate.

Overall Bala is worth the watch because of its smart writing, exceptional performances, and constant flow of laugh-out-loud moments. It will leave you in a good mood and maybe even more confident in your own skin.
