Varun Dhawan & Sara Ali Khan to Star in ‘Coolie No. 1 Remake ?

Sara Ali Khan made a grand debut with Kedarnath which was immediately followed by Simmba. While both her films made their mark at the box office, Simmba went on to cross the 200 crore mark in less than 12 days.

And now, it’s time to move ahead. According to some Sources in the Industry, it has now confirmed that Sara Ali Khan will step in the shoes of Karisma Kapoor to play the leading lady, opposite Varun Dhawan, in the official remake of Coolie No. 1.

A source confirms by quoting, “Varun and Sara will share screen space in the former’s first home production. It will be directed by David Dhawan, who had also helmed the original. This will be the first film to roll out under their banner The One Entertainment. The team wanted a new Jodi for the comedy and the Dhawan’s felt Sara would be apt for it.”

The source added that Sara Ali Khan was offered the part even before Kedarnath had hit the screens. “They were in talks for some time and had approached her even before Kedarnath hit the marquee. The idea is to adapt the original and modernize it. The 23-year-old actress will step into Karisma’s shoes, but the makers are changing the character sketch a bit and making it even more prominent in the remake.”

On the work front, Varun Dhawan is busy with the shoot of period drama ‘Kalank’, the movie also features Alia Bhatt, Madhuri Dixit, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sanjay Dutt in pivotal roles. The actor also has Remo D’Souza’s dance film in his kitty. Initially, Varun was to share screen space Katrina Kaif but the Diva due to date issues has walked out and is replaced by Shraddha Kapoor.

For those who don’t ‘know ‘Coolie. No. 1’ is considered a cult comedy with Karisma Kapoor and Govinda. In the film, Karisma’s father gets her married off to a porter (coolie), under the assumption that he is a wealthy person. What happens next is a laugh riot. Kader Khan who passed away recently was also a part of the film.
